hey, this is kat. first i’d like to apologize for my relative silence on this matter for the past day or two. this was tough on me, not nearly as it was for those involved in the matter, but tough regardless. i needed time away to recuperate, as well as time to let the dust settle a bit before i made any statement on the ban, as well as what subsequently unfolded on site.
evidence has been provided to me in private by a trusted individual of the user that was harmed by karube. it is an extensive document — critically, not a call-out, but a proper, semi-formal response — and has led me to my final conclusion: karube’s ban will remain, and karube is not welcome to return to spring.
i’ll immediately follow up that conclusion by stating that i do not believe in binary thinking. based on the same evidence presented from the person representing the harmed user, in addition to evidence presented by friends of karube, and karube directly to me, it is clear that both individuals at hand have personal problems that i nor anyone on spring is equipped to handle. it is also clear to me that karube in particular shows a lack of awareness for the actions and choices made that have deeply hurt the harmed user, as well as a lack of acknowledgement that these actions and the behavior shown were inappropriate at all. based on that, my final decision, made with extensive input from mods, is that for the sake of my community, the harmed user, and karube, i cannot in good conscience allow karube to ever return to the site.
i encourage karube to work and reflect on all of this, because i believe that karube can learn and grow from this. however, this growth cannot happen in the presence of my community. once again: we as a community are not equipped to handle the (possibly severe) personal problems of each other, nor am i or my mods equipped to handle the instability of the users we are responsible for. though i believe karube is able to learn and grow, i and my community are not able to offer spring as a space for that to happen in.
the bottom line is that an individual was hurt by karube, and this harm compounded and worsened existing personal problems of this individual. i will not disclose these problems, but the severity and seriousness of them were made explicit in what i was shown. thus, i am confident that karube’s unawareness of personal conduct and its impact, as well as the direct refusal to acknowledge this behavior as inappropriate in private communication with me, is a danger to my community, to karube in direct, and not something that the community or i am equipped to handle or manage.
before i finish this i would like to restate that all-or-nothing thinking is not something i ever want to engage in, nor do i want to encourage it in the users reading this. do not harass any user involved in this matter. if you have a concern, please reach out in private to myself or my mods. my word is final, as i have made clear in spring rules, and no matter your personal opinion on the subject at hand, i do not want to see it expressed on my site where involved users can see it. i will count myself in “involved users” because, though i am not personally involved with any of the users in this conflict, i as admin of spring have to make decisions for the health of the community based on what has occurred, and i do not want further discussion of the topic to harm anyone on site, directly or not.
karube’s ban will remain. karube is unwelcome to return to spring.
do not harass any user involved in the matter, on site or off site, as you will risk action taken by admin and mods.
do not express any opinion, no matter your stance, where involved users can see it, as you will risk harming them or the health of the community.
